Betty Barèl

The Hague, The Netherlands

Betty holds a secondary teaching qualification for Dutch from the Faculty of Education in Amsterdam. She taught Dutch at various schools in Turkey, Japan, China, The Netherlands and Singapore. Betty founded the Stichting Nederlands Onderwijs (Dutch Education Foundation) in Istanbul and professionalised the curriculum. She was examiner for the CNaVT-exam in several countries. As from August 2016, Betty works at the International School of the Hague (ISH) as IB-Dutch teacher in the MYP-programme. At ISH she is Language and Literature coordinator, and she develops teaching resources. Betty is well informed of all recent developments regarding IB Education.

Intensieve en persoonlijke begeleiding bij afstandsonderwijs voor Nederlandstalige IB-leerlingen

IBDP Dutch

16-19 years
From € 3.550,- per academic year
The IBDP-programs are fully in line with the curriculum and final attainment levels set by the IBO (International Baccalaureate Organization). There are weekly Videocalls, one on one, with a designated tutor. The teaching materials are challenging, efficient and goal oriented.

Pre-IBDP Dutch

11-16 years
€ 2.800,- per academic year
The pre-IBDP program focuses on the philosophy of international education, in particular on IBMYP. The main objective is that students feel secure and confident in their command of the Dutch language, and that they develop their imagination by reading and analysing literary texts.
This program also fits students who do not visit an IB-school.

IBID is available for feedback and support beyond our tutoring programs. This may be for students as well as for teachers and educational institutions who need help with IB Dutch related questions.

Experiences with IBID

Distance learning requires discipline and independence. That was hard in the beginning, but I learned to ask for help when I needed it. The teaching material is really clear and was developed especially by and for IBID. The study planner is also very useful; and although you and the teacher agree on a planning, it can almost always be adapted. I felt very supported by my teacher, who was always looking out for what  works best for me.

When I started working with IBID back in 2011, I quickly realized that students are taking the right decision to work with Josephine and her team. Their knowledge of the course and excellent support makes the whole Self-Taught experience a very productive journey for both students and coordinators. I wish the same existed for other languages!
