And so the first semester of this school year draws to an end.
The number of IBID students has increased to 118, with 73 students taking our distance classes in preparation for the IB Diploma, 32 of who will sit the exam in May 2018. More and more students are applying to IBID for the preparatory programme (pre-IBDP) and we currently have 45 students.
The new year marks IBID’s 18th anniversary. We are very pleased with the trust placed in us by an ever growing number of schools, parents and organisations. But nothing beats the enthusiasm that almost all students – ultimately – have in common with us, a passion for Dutch and Flemish language and literature.
IBID: because distance learning can be personal.
IBID offers distance learning to Dutch-speaking IB students aged 13-19, in the last five years of secondary education. In its capacity as ‘centre of expertise’, IBID also offers coaching to IB schools and IB colleagues.
IBID’s strength lies in its intensive, personal support based on a challenging programme. Our teaching staff is made up of senior teachers who each have ample experience with international education and life abroad. We keep in touch with each student on a weekly basis, mainly by email or Skype sessions. Students are coached step by step with clear instructions and targeted feedback.
From IBID’s foundation in 2000, the exam results are clear proof of the success of our approach. The average mark of our students is higher than the global average for IB Dutch A: Literature SL, despite the fact that IBID students follow the programme through distance learning.
Every student abroad has his or her own story. There is often a world of difference between students, in a literal and figurative sense. IBID has a keen eye for these differences in its support of students. It would be our pleasure to talk to you personally about the courses we provide. Please fill in the contact form and we will get in touch with you to make an appointment.
The one-, two- or three-year pre-IBDP programme
The pre-IBDP programme is aimed at students aged between roughly 13 and 16. Depending on the time of application, we offer a one-year, two-year or three-year option. The pre-IBDP programme is an excellent preparation for the students’ final two exam years of IB Dutch A. It also complies with the MYP e-assessments. The main objective is that students feel secure and confident in their command of the Dutch language.
The teaching material developed especially by IBID is dynamic, thought-provoking and international:
- We focus on the philosophy of international education, in particular on IBMYP.
- The content of the lessons is based on the environment and thinking of young world citizens.
- Students learn to analyse various language forms and genres, including academic texts, lectures, cabaret, cartoons, comic books, poems, interviews and films.
- Each week, students receive oral and written feedback on their work.
We attach great importance to personal contact between student and IBID teacher. Teaching and coaching go hand in hand because students are all different and because they work at various levels depending on their background. The teacher can adapt the lessons entirely to fit in with the specific circumstances of each individual student. Because the students themselves are involved in this process, they have a say in their own made-to-measure programme, which is highly motivating.
